Aluminium 7050 bars are produced from a high-strength aluminium-zinc alloy with magnesium and copper additions and have excellent mechanical performance, as well as stress corrosion cracking resistance. These bars will have tensile strengths in the range 460 to 570 MPa and yield strengths of 370 to 510 MPa, depending on the temper (often T7451 or T7651). The alloy has good fracture toughness and fatigue resistance. Aluminium 7050 is less readily weldable than lower-strength alloys but is very machinable and amenable to heat treatment and is therefore well suited to use in components that must last for long periods in severe environments.
